TrojanHunter: New Subscription Service
« on: Jan 30th, 2006, 8:03am »

On May 1st, 2006 a new subscription service for TrojanHunter will be introduced. This subscription service will provide subscribing customers with better technical and malware removal support and will allow us to further expand the detection and removal capabilities of TrojanHunter.

The following are the benefits you as a user will get from a subscription:

  • One year of trojan definition updates
  • Upgrades to all new versions of TrojanHunter released during your subscription period
  • File analysis of submitted possible trojan files
  • Premium technical support at an address dedicated to licensed users

Pricing
A one-year subscription will cost US $19.95.

During the period from May 1st to June 1st there will be a discount available on subscriptions that existing customers can take advantage of.

Current Customers
Those who purchased TrojanHunter after May 1st, 2005 will have a one-year subscription with their license from date of purchase. All new TrojanHunter licenses will include a 1-year subscription.

What will happen if I don't purchase a subscription?
If you don't purchase a subscription your current version of TrojanHunter will still function, but must be manually updated, and you will not receive any of the benefits of a subscribing user.

Probably it is about time.  AV vendors like Symantec already charge quite a bit more than that for subscription renewal, in fact it has gotten where it is easier to wait and get a whole new product upgrade {after rebates}, than to renew subscription on Symantec products.  Just using them as example, one would think a company of their size would have economies of scale to keep subscription costs down but apparently not.  Thus my argument is if a very large vendor like them has to do it, certainly I can understand why a much smaller vendor has to do it. Hi,
For some clarification re:Current Customers
Those who purchased TrojanHunter after May 1st, 2005 will have a one-year subscription with their license from date of purchase. All new TrojanHunter licenses will include a 1-year subscription.
How will this work for customers who have purchased Trojan Hunter PRIOR to the date of May 1/2005,will it be the same subscription fee of $19.95 or will it be some other model of payment.
Thanks

I just wanted to highlight that if you have recently purchased TrojanHunter you won't also have to buy a subscription (e.g. if you purchased on Jan 10th 2006 you will have a subscription until Jan 10th, 2007). The subscription fee will be the one mentioned for purchases prior to May 1st, 2005.

Hi Magnus,

Will we be able to buy more than one year (ie. 2 years of service)?

Does this mean you will not accept suspicious files from non-subscribers?

I would be very interested in the answer to this query also seeing as I have had my TH licence since 2003.

Fair, and announced well in advance!  Thank you.

With all the recent changes and turmoil in AT, the new subscription plan seems to cover it all.  After almost four
years of mostly daily updates and frequent version updates,
$19.95 is still a bargain IMO.  And, if I understand correctly,
a discount (this year) for "existing" customers is a real plus.

No, it just means that priority will be given to subscribing users. Submissions from anyone will still be welcome.

Just one more question... Will you be offering a free version of TH? Something along the lines of an on-demenad scanner only where sigs have to be updated manually? Just curious... Just the way everything reads it ALMOST sounds like it. Personally, I have no problem with the yearly subscription service.

No, unfortunately not. There will still be a 30-day trial version available of course.

I have no problem with the idea of a fee- I've been using TH a long time. I'm just wondering if current owners will be notified thru their e-mail or some other method- when it is time to purchase a license at a discount?

It often feels like all I do is find updates/upgrades/run scans/etc.; leaving little time for anything else. So I sometimes miss hearing about one update or another just due to the sheer volume.

Thanks for any response.
